Dear Friends,

The first issue of the Month, hope you would join the select group of collaborators.

Thanks to you I have material for a couple of additional issues, but unfortunately, we have had a couple of farewells.

I always cross my fingers with the hope that the Circular gets contacted with good news much before the sad departure.

I thank those that have asked and have send in funds anonymously.

At the end of this issue, you will find the instructions to send funds, I know your limitations.

Sharing some photos that I came across this morning about St Benet’s Hall…and a specific memory.

During my GCEs in December 1962, remember going up and studying there for the next test on those steps to the “picture theater”…..silence…peace….quiet…..with no one around.

Complained then…but the Abbey School monks and teachers prepared me spiritually and academically for the rest of my life.

I recognize and thank my parents for their love and their personal financial sacrifices that they made to send me there.

And…last but not least…very grateful for you and the friendships that we established ….especially to my classmates as many of us spent those 6 years together...

A correction in the attached picture of our class:  Number 9 is actually my good friend …and we are still in touch after 59 years…PETER DE MORVAY …… the listed name of Ladislao Grossman is incorrect.

MAY GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU & YOURS IN THESE CHALLENGING TIMES

Please be extra careful and stay healthy, safe and sound,

(Dear friends, I have close to 4000 photos, those that have been sent are catalogued with a short NUMBER, please use it when requesting corrections, memory fading, EDITOR)

School throws out 100 students

LARA PICKFORD-GORDON

SUNDAY 14 SEPTEMBER 2003

The Education Ministry’s tardiness in making proper arrangements with St Bede Vocational School, Mt St Benedict, has left approximately 100 students shut out for the rest of the new school term.

Parents and students were shocked to learn via a letter last Friday that they (the students) had only three days left at the school.

The letter from the Abbot of Mount St Benedict, Rt Rev Francis Alleyne stated: “To date, proper arrangements between the Ministry and St Bede have not been finalised, that is, no formal contract has been signed and nothing has been paid to the school.

The students, who previously attended Curepe and Mt Hope Junior Secondary Schools, were supposed to sit the 14-plus exam this year.

However, an assessment was done at their respective schools last year and they were assigned to St Bede’s in November.

Alleyne informed parents that the school did not have proper authority to have the students in the school and also could not meet its financial commitments for example, salary for staff, maintenance, equipment and material.

He said the school finished the last school year by taking a “substantial loan” from the Abbey with the expectation, each day, that the matter would be rectified.

Alleyne said at present the school did not have a legal agreement with the Ministry nor finances but it did have a “big loan” to pay.

Parents were told that from September 17 their children could no longer be accommodated, and St Bede will only accommodate its private students.

Alleyne referred them to the Ministry for clarification of their children’s future.

Lorencia Ballack, whose sons Michael and Matthew are students of St Bede’s said: “The children were getting their things for school and to get a letter like this, saying they are no longer accommodated, this brings them down.”

She too is hurt and disappointed.

Ballack said she has purchased shirts costing $35 each, a steel tip shoe costing $250, an overall costing $150, welding jacket and goggles.

Ballack said the parents have been also paying $20 for a security guard.

She said when the students were sent to St Bede’s the Ministry was supposed to assign more teachers, but this never happened, and the students had many free periods. “Some of them run away from school, they would rather go home than stay in school doing nothing, some end up fighting or stealing from other students.”

She said the Curepe and Mt Hope Junior Secondary School students were sent to St Bede’s as part of a project to send some students to vocational schools.

They were allowed to wear their secondary school uniforms until they purchased the new uniform.

                               PEDRO J. CASTRO.

PRAISES TO ALL THE WOMEN ...

I like to conceive of every woman as located on the top of a human pyramid… and as a counterpart to see the man located in the middle of it. Women must be considered as a primeval source and cradle of the greatest love ... it can definitely be considered as the most beautiful and sublime gift of creation made to all humanity.

I like to contemplate every woman as the most beautiful and sublime gift of creation made to humanity, endowed with an insurmountable sensitivity and knowing that she does all her acts with deep love and selflessness ... taking into account that she does them in continuously, with total detachment. Through his presence, he makes himself feel that he is everywhere and with a very particular dedication he is the pivot that maintains the family nucleus against all obstacles ... even with the divine gift that from his own womb comes to procreate as a divine gift to man, such as its loving protective force and even more as its support and not as its master, owner and lord, to be its slave and be subjected to its whims, and unspeakable desires, which for centuries has generated infinite conflicts of war, which has led to sink and permanently affect the flame of love for women and all their offspring.

The woman par excellence is the goddess of love ... there is no act, gesture, action, or expression that does not have the double imprint of her infinite love. The man must stop hiding his inferiority complex from the woman, when he knows all the wonder that is and let go of his arrogant preponderance of superiority and thus appreciate in all its magnitude the exalted presence of the woman, so that this way permanently arrives to be able to continue enriching ... continue creating and training to be able to take care of a world that is better for humanity ... without conflicts and without those endless wars. Our wish at the end of the road would be love and peace, that it be driven ... motivated by women ... and I personally believe that it is the key to the 21st century.

I conclude that the WOMAN (IN CAPITAL LETTERS) will continue to be the greatest, most wonderful and sublime gift of God to the human race and through THEM, to have all the children who at birth highlight his divine presence. Our duty will be to love, protect and care for them and never allow any physical, verbal or aggression against these innocent beings.

ROSIN ... Definitely loving women is like a dew at dawn. TO LOVE A WOMAN DEFINITELY IS TO HAVE THE MOST PRECIOUS GIFT OF THE UNIVERSE.

The Exorcisms and minor exorcisms(deliverances)

Father Harold Imamshah

Dec 21, 2013

The Exorcisms and minor exorcisms (deliverances) continued in my days as a monk, and I did witness one or 2 episodes when asked to be part of the Prayer team.

I learnt much from Fr. Leo Van Lleuwen before he died and put much of his advice (and that of Bishop John Mendes who was trained by him) in later years in this Exorcism/Deliverance Ministry in Ohio, Louisiana, Michigan, and Mexico and in one case in Haiti.

Guys, let me invite you this Christmas to put aside 10 minutes starting from the time you read this email, each day for the next 9 days at Noon or 6pm to pray for an increase in vocations to the Monastic Life, so that our dear Monastery could continue to be a Centre for prayer for the Trinidad and Tobago and the rest of the Caribbean.

God bless you and your families this Christmas; I will remember you in my Christmas Masses at the Church of the Nativity, Crystal Stream and St. Anthony's, Petit Valley.
